http://listverse.com/2015/03/10/10-secrets-the-catholic-church-hopes-youve-forgotten/I haven't fact checked each item, but the mother Teresa item sure passes muster.
Although Mother Teresa was beatified as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2003, in reality she was far from the saint the Church would lead you to believe. In fact, Mother Teresa isnt even her real name; she was born Anjeze Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Albania. The issues certainly dont end with her pseudonym. Researchers today have called Mother Teresa an empty PR ploy by the Vatican to rehabilitate their tarnished image.
Mother Teresas claim to fame is helping poor around the world, but she did quite the opposite throughout her lifetime. Mother Teresa made niceties with right-wing Haitian Dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier and accepted money from him which had been stolen from Haitis poor. Duvalier was known for stealing millions from Haitis poor so that he could maintain his own lavish lifestyle. He spent $2 million of Haitis money to pay for his extravagant wedding. Duvalier also profited from drug trafficking and selling the body parts of deceased Haitians.
Mother Teresa rubbed elbows with another thief by the name of Charles Keating. If that name rings a bell for you, it should; Keating is the banker best known for defrauding American taxpayers out of over $3 billion during the savings and loan crisis of the 80s and 90s. Keating donated $1.25 million to Mother Teresa and lent her his private jet so that the missionary could jet set around the world. Keating would later be convicted in state and federal courts of a litany of crimes including racketeering, fraud, and conspiracy. After Keating was convicted, Mother Teresa refused to return the stolen money and asked one of the courts to overturn his sentence.
What she did with the money remains in question. The care she gave to the sick and poor in her hospices was observed to be wholly unsanitary, medical care was wholly insufficient, and crucial pain management for the dying was cruelly inadequate. Her hospices were found to not even distinguish between terminally ill patients and those who could be cured. Consequently, patients with curable illness died from the poor, unsanitary treatment they received from Mother Teresas facilities.

(14,255 posts)He said that if one saw Teresa when one was sick - one was most likely going to die right there, she was mainly interested in the souls of dying people. And it did not go over too well when she got the best of medical care.
That being said - I believe all nuns, like Popes, choose a different name when ordained. So saying Teresa is not even really her name is, IMO, pretty clueless. And petty. And pointless. There's enough actual information there.

(495 posts)She had a picture of herself as a baby with Mother Theresa holding her and kept the laminated picture in her wallet. People would come in and want to touch her and see the photo!!! I could never understand it, they thought she held some magical powers because MT had held her as a baby. Weird!!!

(1,582 posts)My first thought was "why would anyone name their baby Mother Teresa?" I don't know, I just thought that was funny.
My next thought was "why would someone find that was so scandalous?" The nuns I knew all took names when their entered their vocation. That was kinda funny too - made me think of this being reported on a cable news channel with a panel of guests discussing her motives.
