When it comes to issues like same-sex marriage and birth control, the pope's fans and apologists try to minimize the effects of his bigotry by saying that most Catholics just ignore what he says anyway, and think and do what they want. But when it comes to something like this, all of a sudden he becomes they one guy that everyone listens to and follows.

it sure if fun to watch Ryan, Santorum and Jeb squirm. Even better than his view of global warming is view on lassez fair capitalism.

The pope is just as adamant about marriage equality, abortion, and contraception being wrong, yet liberals see nothing wrong with ignoring him on those things. They don't "squirm," so why would the right wing?

about money than social issues. They fear the death of radical capitalism more than all else. I don't think liberals give him a pass on social issues. We know that lay Catholics ignore most of that. They use birth control, go else where for abortions and marry outside the church. Only the poor can't. Economic justice will change all of that. Just like I have questions about Hillary and big money, she is way ahead on the 3 issues you mention. If she is our candidate I'll vote for her in a minute. While I don't approve of the Popes position on social issues, I'll give him credit for his latest views on the environment and economy.

If liberals (and as you're claiming, lay Catholics) can simply "ignore" proclamations about birth control, abortion, homosexuality, etc. (all of which are "mortal sins!&quot without worrying about it at all, then why should conservatives be bothered by what he says about capitalism or the environment?

Paul Ryan got a letter from the American Bishops saying his budget goes against the church teaching and we haven't seen much of him sense. Santorum is babbling while trying to call out the pope and so is Jeb.
