Related: About this forumDon't worry, Christians. You still have the "religious liberty" to hate others.
My question is: what is it about your religion that would make you want to?

(3,657 posts)Huckabee blasts SCOTUS "I will not acquiesce to an imperial court" vows to "resist and reject.
"Little Rock, Ark. - Former Arkansas governor and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee made the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's ruling on Obergefell v. Hodges.
"The Supreme Court has spoken with a very divided voice on something only the Supreme Being can do-redefine marriage. I will not acquiesce to an imperial court any more than our Founders acquiesced to an imperial British monarch. We must resist and reject judicial tyranny, not retreat.
"This ruling is not about marriage equality, it's about marriage redefinition. This irrational, unconstitutional rejection of the expressed will of the people in over 30 states will prove to be one of the court's most disastrous decisions, and they have had many. The only outcome worse than this flawed, failed decision would be for the President and Congress, two co-equal branches of government, to surrender in the face of this out-of-control act of unconstitutional, judicial tyranny."

(36,693 posts)or would you care to give the definition of a good Christian
cbayer
(146,218 posts)I see good and bad people (with areas of grey, of course). I see christian and non-christian. I see at least four possible combinations there.
What do you see?
Blinders might prevent one from seeing some of those.
Angry Dragon
(36,693 posts)but at the same time what they say and do does not match what others say and do but also claim they are Christians. So I ask how does one tell the difference??
cbayer
(146,218 posts)There's all kinds of issues with that.
It's how you define these words and the people they apply to.
How do you personally tell the difference between someone is essentially good or bad? Can someone be one or the other and still a christian? Can someone be one or the other and be an atheist?

(36,693 posts)I hear every day people declare themselves Christian and then say that if we allow gays to marry then god is getting to destroy this country
If that is true then that has an effect on my future.
So it is important how people define themselves and I am just trying to figure out who to believe.
I listen to a local radio host that says he can see evil and evil should be destroyed. By way of the death penalty. but god says do not kill. And he calls himself a Christian.
This religion stuff is just so confusing. Others say that women do not deserve birth control because god wants many children but then these women can not afford more children other Christians get mad at them for having more children.
So I ask which are the good Christians and which are the bad Christians.
Atheists have no sin because they have no god. So all atheists are really good.
cbayer
(146,218 posts)on a case by case basis and not prejudge them based on a label.
All that a christian is is someone who follows christ. That is wide open to definition, so it might help if you asked those who say so what they mean.
If a person presents ideas and beliefs that you find objectionable, I suspect you would find that person objectionable whether they were christians or not.
If they present ideas and beliefs that you also embrace, I suspect your would find them good whether they were christians or not.
I am assuming your last line is meant to be humorous.

If one does not have a god how can they be a sinner??
Right now we have 14 people trying to be the republican presidential candidate. I believe all of them would declare that they are Christians. However, most if not all declare that it is the sinners that are destroying this country and bringing the wrath of god upon us all. Atheists being not Christians are not sinners. So it must be the Christians that are bringing the wrath of god down upon this country.
If I remember correctly Jesus preached love, but many Christians want to decide for others whom it is okay to love. How can these people be Christians??
It just seems to get so confusing to determine which people are really true Christians. It occurs to me that perhaps a Christian test needs to take place and not wait until a god determines which Christians are really going to enter the pearly gates. I would think it would be a bummer to die and expect to enter heaven and find out you are going to hell instead. So it would be better to have a earthly Christian test to alleviate any confusion on which way they are going.
See this is some of what I am talking about

How is one to know which Christians to believe??

(146,218 posts)There are others ways to be bad besides being a sinner.
You continue to want to take people to task for calling themselves christian but not exhibiting qualities that you would associate with christianity.
I agree with you, but that is not the issue here.
You said you are unable to tell those types of people from the people that do call themselves christian and do exhibit the qualities you would associate with christianity.
Those are your blinders.
There is no need for you to determine who are "true" christians and who are not. You are perfectly within your rights to judge them on their actions and beliefs.
But you are totally out of bounds to hold all those who call themselves christian guilty for those that do not exhibit the qualities you associate with it.
Why don't you just leave their religious beliefs out of it and evaluate them on a a case by case basis. If you are fortunate, others will afford you the same level of individual evaluation and not judge you based on others who may share your non/beliefs.
As to your link, frankly I don't think you believe any christians, and therein lies your huge blind spot and what may be a deep prejudice.
