SANTA CRUZ, Bolivia (AP) — Pope Francis apologized Thursday for the sins and "offenses" committed by the Catholic Church against indigenous peoples during the colonial-era conquest of the Americas.

History's first Latin American pope "humbly" begged forgiveness during an encounter in Bolivia with indigenous groups and other activists and in the presence of Bolivia's first-ever indigenous president, Evo Morales.

Francis noted that Latin American church leaders in the past had acknowledged "grave sins were committed against the native peoples of America in the name of God." St. John Paul II, for his part, apologized to the continent's indigenous for the "pain and suffering" caused during the 500 years of the church's presence on the continent during a 1992 visit to the Dominican Republic.

But Francis went farther.

Teaching homosexuality is "intrinsically disordered".
Relegating women to second class status.
Opposing reproductive choice.
Opposing marriage equality.
Claiming gender theory is akin to Naziism.

It is so sad you don't see any of that. No wonder you think Pope Awesome is, well, awesome.

trying to denying reproductive choice to the whole planet, covering up for unknown numbers of pedophiles, gee, yeah, none are as bad as genocide so I guess we just give that all a pass and shouldn't talk about it.

It looks to me like he is being pretty straightforward about it.

What other "why" do you see?

He apologized for things that were done. He's ignoring the WHY. You know very well what that is. WHY is because they believed (as Frankie and the current RCC leadership do today) that THEY know what god wants, what we humans need to do to please him, and what we are ALLOWED to do to make it happen. And that is exactly why he can't address that - because without that bogus moral superiority, the modern day church will collapse.

So he apologizes for the actions of long-dead men. Doesn't cost him anything, improves his image. The PR Pope strikes again.
