Here’s where your religion stands on gay marriage

http://bangordailynews.com/2015/07/10/news/heres-where-your-religion-stands-on-gay-marriage/

The Rev. Patrick Henry Reardon of All Saints Antiochian Orthodox Church in Chicago says the government can define and sanction marriage on its terms but that he'll no longer act as an agent of the government by signing civil licenses.

How will the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 26 ruling making same-sex marriage legal in every state affect religious groups?

It makes clear that clergy are not required to perform same-sex marriages. But some conservative religious schools are worried. They may have to allow same-sex relationships or else risk losing their tax-exempt status.

Many religions — the Roman Catholic Church, Orthodox Judaism and Islam, for example — remain firmly opposed to same-sex marriage. But a growing number of religions have changed their positions in the last couple decades, including the Reform and Conservative Jewish movements, the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ.

For some of the largest Protestant denominations, the debate has often been difficult, especially among the United Methodist Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Episcopal Church. The ELCA, for instance, permits pastors and their congregations to make their own decisions about whether to perform same-sex marriages.

My religion is Universal Life Church, and our motto is, "Do the right thing." Since God does not speak to us, we have to rely on the Supreme Court, so it's clear what is the right thing here.

5. Even without the Supreme Court, what is right seems very clear.

because that is the only thing you ever reply to me with.

It would be really refreshing to have any kind of substantive exchange with you. Want to give it a try?

Maybe start by distancing yourself from anyone who would use those types of nasty right wing talking points.

When you do nothing to address the behavior of your family and friends (two of whom are on 5-hide vacations at the moment - go figure), you really lose any right to criticize others.

3. LOL, I love how misleading that graphic is.

Makes it look like support is pretty evenly split, right?

What should be noted is that the middle column represents something like 90-95% of total membership in the US. 65-70 million Catholics. 20-25 million Baptists. 8 million Methodists.

Meanwhile, the largest group in the left column is the ELCA with a little over 4 million members.

But let's cheer how wonderful religion is! Hooray!

You'd think an organization dealing with statistics would be sensitive to this sort of thing (even if it only meant annotating the graphic with membership data).

As it stands, yes, misleading as hell.

In the opposed I see names like Roman Catholic Church, and Baptist church, ans Islam while the for have the Episcopal church, and a whole lot of movements. That scale is not balanced.

Homosexuals have been personally touched by his noodliness so to deny them a right to marriage is considered an abomination

I still don't see an official position.
