France drops bid to appoint gay Vatican ambassador, reports say

Harriet Sherwood, and Kim Willsher in Paris
Monday 12 October 2015 12.53 BST

France has abandoned attempts to appoint a gay Catholic diplomat as its ambassador to the Vatican after a nine-month standoff, according to French media.

Laurent Stefanini, a widely respected chief of protocol to François Hollande, was named as the French president’s choice to serve as ambassador to the Holy See in January. However, without explicitly rejecting his nomination, the Vatican has not accepted his credentials. A new ambassador’s credentials are normally accepted within weeks.

Sources at the Élysée palace told French daily Libération that Hollande had given up his efforts over the appointment. “It’s dead,” a source was quoted as saying.

The move comes amid uncertainty over Pope Francis’s stance on homosexuality. Liberal Catholics seized on his statement on homosexuality early in his papacy, when he told reporters: “If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge?”

Anybody uncertain about his stance is just fooling themselves. And if they were using “If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge?” to think that he was different than the other popes and RCC hierarchy, they read ONLY that sentence and not the rest of the context.

I mean, didn't Dawkins tweet something disrespectful toward religion? That's way worse, so I've heard.

In fact, we can see this right here on DU. One only need to lift up the rug to see the bigotry being hidden underneath.

Do you think anyone here is stupid? You use that phrase so often you should trademark it.

Instead of feeding your obsession with me, as here,

why don't yop have the integrity to attempt a direct insult.

Now, again,

Calling you a bigot? Absolutely not. I don't need to. You seem to have that covered on your own.

Are you calling me a bigot?

Much as you'd prefer your indirect insults go unanswered, you're out of luck.

When you're down putting up youtube smokescreens answer the two questions. If you can summon the integrity to do so without straining yourself.

Remember, cleanhippie, your usual insinuations of DUers being bigots raises questions that demand answers.

Pope Francis and the Vatican "gay lobby"—10 things to know and share

by Jimmy Akin 06/12/2013 Comments (197)

Did Pope Francis just admit the existence of a "gay lobby" at the Vatican? If so, what will he do about it?
Pope Francis recently made the news by, apparently, acknowledging the existence of a "gay lobby" at the Vatican.
What did he say? What did he mean? And what will he do in the future?
Here are 10 things to know and share . . .

1. What did Pope Francis say?
According to press reports, Pope Francis recently said:
"In the Curia there are holy people, truly, there are holy people. But there's also a current of corruption – there's that, too, it's true.... The 'gay lobby' is spoken of, and it's true, that's there... we need to see what we can do.”

7. Where have we heard about this before?
One possible member of the “gay lobby” was outed by the Italian media in 2007. He was swiftly dismissed from his position.
More recently, in the wake of the VatiLeaks scandal, Pope Benedict appointed a commission of three cardinals to conduct an investigation, and in the lead-up to the recent conclave the Italian press began reporting that the commission had turned up evidence of a “gay lobby” within the Vatican.

They've convinced people that he loves the gays because he hugged one.

So what if he wants to prevent them from marrying the people they love or adopting children?

It's the same thing as saying "I have a black/latino/Jewish etc friend so I can't be a bigot!"

Except he can be and is a bigot, one of the worst kind because even though he claims to love lgbt people he uses his influence around the world to prevent them from getting their human rights.

I'd rather be hated by him and have him stay out of my womb.
