http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/Former-Gitmo-detainees-don-t-deserve-compassion-Catholic-bishops-407226The President of the Catholic Bishops Conference, Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu has suggested the former Yemeni detainees from Guantanamo Bay prison do not deserve the compassion of Ghanaians.
Rev. Osei Bonsus words come in response to President Mahamas call on Ghanaians to show compassion to the two Yemeni men, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby, who were transferred to Ghana last week by the United States government.
The Catholic Bishops Conference have already released a statement calling the governments decision to accept the former detainees as wrong and dangerous.

These people are not refugees. They are people who have been accused of being terrorists the fact that Christ came for sinners doesnt mean we should endanger our lives, he said.

"accused of being terrorists" - and then confined for years, never convicted of anything, and then released.

(16,856 posts)1. They don't seem all that particular about who
they install as bishops in the church these days, do they? I suppose it's always been that way, though, different century, different hypocrisy. Do these people actually believe that Jesus would have turned those former prisoners away? And to think that Africa is one area of the world where Catholicism is growing the fastest. That is some disgusting behavior from the leaders of their church.

(7,753 posts)2. I expect to see Wonderpope stepping in and chastising these bishops,
before hugging the two Yemeni men, washing their feet and pointing out that they're welcome in Heaven.
or perhaps not.

They should look to a higher authority.
John 8:1-11
1 while Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him and he sat down and began to teach them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery; and making her stand before all of them, 4 they said to him, Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. 5 Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say? 6 They said this to test him, so that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. 8 And once again he bent down and wrote on the ground. 9 When they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the elders; and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10 Jesus straightened up and said to her, Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? 11 She said, No one, sir.And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.
