Television star Paul O'Grady has opened up about his religious beliefs in his Salvation Army documentary series.

The beloved presenter - who shot to fame as drag queen Lily Savage in the 90s - wanted to shine a light on all the work the Christian charity organisation does and does it with his typical trademark humour.

While talking to Captain Jo about whether he believes in God in the first of his new six-part series, the comedian admits that he just doesn't know, but still wants to join the faith-based organisation.

"Do I believe in God? Oh dear, I don't know. Some people believe blindly, I can't you see, you know I have to know. I don't know, I really can't answer that question. I'd like to say I believe in God.
