Hillary Clinton: Next President Should Be Praying Person

September 10, 2016
Posted by Jack Vance

Hillary Clinton spoke to the National Baptist Convention in Kansas City this week. According to The New York Times, there was at least one notable moment during her speech, one that has been generating quite a bit of attention among atheists in the U.S.

The next president, she told the audience at the National Baptist Convention here on Thursday night, should be “a praying person.”

Great. This would seem to disqualify most atheists from the office. Isn't this precisely the sort of religious bigotry of which Clinton has accused her opponent? Or is it just that atheists are fair game while Muslims must be shielded for some reason?

Mrs. Clinton told an audience that was almost entirely black. The nation, she added, needed “a president who will pray with you and for you.”

She has my total support but that statement is pure bullshit. The non-religious remain the only group that can routinely be trashed in public.

I want elected officials who can govern, not pray.

Humans have been praying to things that are bullshit since our beginning. I don't want someone to carry on that tradition.

We need a shepherd. Not a sheep.

Keep gods out of government.

Religious people who don't believe in intercessory prayer as part of their faith don't pray as a form of reflection. They don't pray at all.

And neither do atheists. (Some agnostics may)

I'm a very spiritual person, and I pray daily. However, I don't necessarily think a person who is the President needs to be a praying person, or all that spiritual necessarily. Much love to Hillary, but I disagree with her on this one.

8. I think she was backwards on how she said this.

Instead of saying the next pres should be a praying one, she should say that as president, prayer would be a part of her daily personal life. I like that she differentiates herself from trump in this way, especially since several nationally known religious leaders are lying about trump's dedication to Christian values. She can appeal to progressive and moderate Christians this way.

I don't mind that she wants to pray or meditate or practice yoga, or anything else as part of a beneficial routine for her mental and emotional state if that's who she is, and with her, I think it's real.

9. Really. Neither religion nor religious belief has been a part of trump's life for 60 years.

He has been scramblintg so opportunistically o appeal to religious voters that it comes off as pure cynical pandering.

Ironically, if he were elected he would probably be the first president without a belief and without a god. Other than himself.

the people buying into his claim are delusional and have to be experiencing cognitive dissonance. His flubs go beyond saying "two Corinthians". He's made comments about believing he has nothing to ask forgiveness for, and last month asked the pastors group to help him get to the WH because he thinks doing good as prez is the only way he'll get to heaven. He really doesn't understand Christianity at all.

Here I figured the tools to gauge that are hiding in the same invisible cupboard your God is always hanging out in.

Curious that you take trump at his word, abandoning all critical thought.

Still doesn't solve the main problem even if I'm skeptical of anything he says.
