The presence of religion in workplaces is rising in France, with 65 percent of employees saying theyve noticed it, according to new research.
The study was published on Thursday by the Observatory for Religion in the Workplace (OFRE) and the Randstad Institute. A total of 1,405 people participated, and all religions were taken into account.
"The 2016 survey by Randstad Institute and OFRE shows a significant increase of religion in business, says Laurent Morestain, secretary general of the Randstad France group and president of the Randstad Institute for Equal Opportunities and Sustainable Development.
Last year, the same survey showed 50 percent, so the jump is significant.

(6,592 posts)"Issues related to the place of religions and religious attitudes in society have become sensitive in recent years. Therefore, behaviors and situations with a direct or indirect religious dimension are more and more quickly identified," the authors of the study said, as quoted by French media outlet Le Telegramme.
The cause of conflict in some instances was identified as men refusing to work with female bosses, with this reported in 4 percent of the cases while 1 percent refused outright to work with someone of a different religion.

(6,592 posts)I would like to see a guy in one of those things, just for grins.
You're right - if only women do it, even by "choice," that's pretty good circumstantial evidence.

(3,212 posts)You want to wear a black sack? Fine.
You want to cover your head with a black sack or a lovely hijab? Fine.
You want to cover your arms, legs, and feet? Great.
Face coverings should be against the law, however.
I live in a very diverse area, and see women in hijab all the time. NO BIG DEAL.
However, when I see someone with a face covering I feel repulsed. It goes against everything I believe. Women shouldn't be forced to hide in this world. It's sick.

(47,209 posts)Doesn't mean I think it is a good thing to be treated with those customs or attitudes. Men should take responsibility for their own feelings and not feel entitled to force women to deal with them.
rug
(82,333 posts)Or are you simply asserting if women do things that offend you, men should "take responsibility" for that?

(47,209 posts)And I have known that to be the case sometimes.
Yeah I judge the more orthodox practitioners in many religions when they subjugate women on the regular and limit their opportunities and freedom. Fuck yeah I judge that harshly.

(82,333 posts)Or are you just assuming that because you don't like their religion or what they're wearing?

(47,209 posts)You'd have to be one strong cookie to abandon your entire family upon adulthood because of traditions you have grown accustomed to your entire life. The ones that do often find their families completely reject them- are you saying that is NOT intense pressure to conform? I completely disagree.

(82,333 posts)I don't think the video proves anything more than you opinion and anecdotes prove anything.
Other than that a sweeping condemnation of women who are hijabis is both false and wrong.

It had its place when people were trying to explain things they had no means to understand at the time. Side effect: It was a handy-dandy means of control.

We will kill them all except a baby too young to understand, and restart the tribe with her children. They claimed they had done it before.

(182,829 posts)My first day of actual clockin in work, bagging groceries at a Wynn-Dixie, my stepfather sat me down and said "there are two things you never talk about at work, politics and religion".
The right foisted religion into everyone's faces and with the advent of the fax machine started "blast faxes" of water cooler talking points into workplaces. Repetition repitition repitition.
