http://nypost.com/2017/01/30/priest-tells-anti-trump-protesters-to-commit-suicide/The pastor of a largely immigrant Catholic church in Queens has a suggestion for his anti-Trump parishioners: Go take a flying leap off the nearest building.
Show your hate for Trump. Do it for social justice. #JumpAgainstTrump, read a meme posted by the Rev. Philip Pizzo just hours after he celebrated Sunday Mass.
The message included an illustration of a man plummeting from a skyscraper.
The conservative priest, who oversees St. Benedict Joseph Labre Roman Catholic Church in Richmond Hill, previously posted a photo of President Obama with the words Hes not my president and another snapshot of Hillary Clinton titled Ugly Face in Italian along with Happy Halloween.
...
A rep for the Diocese of Brooklyn said the post does not reflect the churchs stance and has been removed.
Father Pizzo did share the meme in question on his personal Facebook page, said diocese spokesman Vito Formica.
He says he intended it as satire only, regrets the offense it has caused and has deleted it. This post does not, in any way, represent the view of the church.

(24,371 posts)The only unforgivable sin in the King James Version is blasphemy.
Matthew 12:31
"Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven."
Mark 3:28-30
"Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"-- because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit."
Luke 12:10
"And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him.
Hebrews 10:29
How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
Mark 3:28-29
"Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"--
Hebrews 10:26-29
For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. .
Mark 3:30
because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit."
Matthew 12:24
But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man casts out demons only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons."
Mark 3:22
The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons."
Luke 11:15
But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons."
Matthew 12:31-32
"Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come."
The only one that comes close to condemnation for suicide is 1 Corinthians 3:17
"If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are."
But that is not worded in the same way the blasphemy passages are.

(22 posts)It's these Catholics (also, like Ryan, Pence and Hannity) that piss me off and sometimes make me rethink being a Catholic. I am a progressive Catholic and for the life of me, some of these people seem to be more trapped in the Old Testament instead of following the New Testament.
If they would go back an read the bible they claim to defend, they should remember that Jesus was a revolutionary-he did not preach war or violence but forgiveness and inclusiveness. He associated with fringes of society-one who espouses to believe should at least make some attempt to help the poor and outcasts in our society...
Not trying to being overly religious-I do respect a person's right to be an atheist or agnostic-just sayin' if a person is going to throw Christianity around, at least follow the basic foundation of your faith!
It's like that saying-nothing wrong with Christianity but the Christians.

I know some private groups that are for crafters. The worst comments I've seen there are people who deny the superiority of bamboo crochet hooks to metal hooks. Seriously, those folks are deluded and should not be allowed to internet.
What kind of private FB groups are you involved in that are worse than a priest encouraging people who disagree with him to kill themselves. Or perhaps you have some definitive proof of FB groups that are private and worse than a priest who encourages people who disagree with him to kill themselves.

(18,312 posts)My FB groups? Again, there's the ongoing discussions regarding bamboo vs metal hooks, straight edged vs curved. To me, I prefer the bamboo but I'm not going to suggest that those who prefer the Susan Bates metal hooks should go kill themselves.
See, I don't belong to or associate with groups that advocate other people kill themselves because they disagree with me.
This guy tho....
Tell me about the groups you are involved in. The ones you financially support...which happen to be the EXACT same group that this Bishop, who suggests that people who disagree with him politically should kill themselves.
Let's get back to that outrage, versus your continued burn about thinking? knowing? wondering? if there's a group of people that have gathered somewhere...at some point in time...to possibly talk about...things? you? DU? God? Who knows. All I know is that you really REALLY seem obsessed with the whole Facebook thing since I dared to publicly solicit invitations for like-minded DU'ers to have a place to congregate where they wouldn't be the subject of baseless alerts and gish-gallopping and all that other nonsense that goes on here. You just keep bringing it up again and again. Seems like a real canker in your life.
As for Warren and Scott...Not sure I have either a Warren or a Scott amongst my FB friends. Well, my cousin is a Scott but he goes by a nicknamed version of his middle name, so not sure that's who you're talking about. The only people who call him Scott are people who don't know he doesn't go by Scott. BUT IF IT IS, tell him that I sent him a text about whether he was gonna be at his Mom's house when I visit SC next time.

A post from a year and a half ago. August 2014.
Man, you just can't let it go, can you?
It stings that much?
Here's the fun part -- ANYONE CAN START A FACEBOOK GROUP. Anyone. You can. I can. My cousin Scott-who-isn't-the-Scott-you're-talking-about can (even though he probably won't - he calls it 'the' facebook, and he's younger than I am! He also adds an "s" at the end of Walmart(s) and Kmart(s). Strange guy, that Scott-that-isn't-Scott.)
Do you get this upset and obsessed over other things you're not involved in? There's a club at my school for single moms who are in Graduate programs. Want their group email address so you can harangue them about being part of a group without rolling out the red carpet for you? I mean, without you being there, how will they know if you disagree with them???? YOU AREN"T EVEN ABLE TO TELL THEM THAT THEY'RE WRONG, and that's a goddamn shame.

(18,312 posts)I know it pleases you to deflect upon anything done by The Church that is awful, which means a lot of pleasure for you because The Church is always doing something awful that you must deflect from.
I'm certain I'm not the only person who notes that your lack of substantive comments regarding the article at hand - a Catholic Priest who suggested that people who disagreed with him should kill themselves -- is...typical of you.
You dominate the front page of the religion group with any and every article that mentions the word "atheist" yet nary a word about the abomination that is a priest who suggests that people who disagree with him should kill themselves.
It's so striking. You are twisting yourself in a pretzel to bring the focus to anything BUT this issue. Bring up a post from july 2014 and August 2014. Look further in the archives and i"m sure you'll find something from 2001 when I first joined DU. Fun stuff.
Yet nothing about this asshole who, without any ambiguity, suggests that people who disagree with him should kill themselves.
But i'm sure you'll find an article about an Atheist that said a nasty thing and post about that! Because that's big news!!!11!!eleventy!
I think everyone who frequents/lurks in this forum is aware of you, and your tactics. Like always, you have not disappointed. Please, rug, DISCUSS ANYTHING BUT THE ISSUE AT HAND which is a Priest who suggested that people that disagreed with him should kill themselves.

(82,333 posts)A long disingenuous way to an admission.
I'll tell you what difference it makes. Only bigots selectively post articles to attack groups, ignoring the totality of what that group is. Only disruptors of websites do it to troll members of that group. And only those obsessed with the subjects of their hatred create fake fb pages to bathe in that bias with others addled by hate.
You want me to "get the fuck off my back about the facebook group"? Are you offended? Read the juvenile shit you and your cohorts are posting there.

I wonder if the prominent Catholic supporters here will be able to contact this arsehole, and tell us how they schooled him? I mean, they'd want to do that at once, for the sake of their church's reputation, wouldn't they? Wouldn't they?
