Black History Month 2017 - Atheist Addition

By James Kirk Wall, Wednesday at 6:40 pm

Religion is so very deeply ingrained in the black culture that it can be very difficult for young people to take the path of rationality and independence. With internet communities such as Facebook and YouTube, there is no reason for any black atheist to feel isolated. Come on out, be proud and be heard.

Logic has no color. You’ll find the same insanity and bigotries that you find in religion are common realizations with other free thinkers of all backgrounds. Most people are good by nature, not through any misguided devotion to ignorant bigots who claimed to speak for god thousands of years ago. Nothing should be worshiped whether it be man or imaginary.

During Black History Month, we should pay tribute to African Americans who freed their minds.

Quotes by African American free thinkers:

"As my ancestors are free from slavery, I am free from the slavery of religion." – Butterfly McQueen

“A black Christian is like a black person with no memory.” – Chris Rock

“Salvation for a race, nation or class must come from within.” - A. Phillip Randolph

“Gods always behave like the people who make them.” - Zora Neale Hurston
