Related: About this forumIt's weird how closely Trump fits the biblical definiton of the Anti-Christ.
https://www.openbible.info/topics/the_antichristand the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it? And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months.

Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
...
In his place shall arise a contemptible person to whom royal majesty has not been given. He shall come in without warning and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.
...
He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.
...
And Jesus answered them, See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and they will lead many astray.
...
He shall pay no attention to the gods of his fathers, or to the one beloved by women. He shall not pay attention to any other god, for he shall magnify himself above all.

In totally unrelated news, Trump has just revealed that he regards the world not as a place where we care for each other, where we love our neighbor. He regards it as a place where individuals battle each other for dominance and riches.

(32,739 posts)I read that book back in the 70's (I was right out of college then) but I still remember a lot of the details.
The author's name is Hal Lindsay I think.
That book will send shivers up your spine, the anti-Christ he describes in that book sounds just like Trump. The way he got elected sound just about right too according to the predictions. Even scarier is the timing of it. Hal Lindsay predicted it would happen in the early part of the 21st century, but I don't think he gave the exact year. His predictions were taken from scriptures in the Bible.
I have to find that book and re-read it now.

(16,423 posts)And Trump's speeches in Europe and his speech on the retraction from the Paris treaty have revealed his world-view that the world is not a place for loving your neighbor: It's a place where you fight your neighbor for power and money. That's what he's preaching.

DetlefK
(16,423 posts)And I'm pretty sure, if you bothered to ask some Christians, they all would have given you that answer.
trotsky
(49,533 posts)Some say the key teaching is to obey god and his commandments. Others say it is the forgiveness of sins. And if you delve deeper into what the words in those answers mean, you'll get even more variation and disagreement.
The point here, not sure if you are intentionally trying to miss it, is that there actually IS disagreement, even among Christians, as to what the "teachings of Jesus" are. It's not as black-and-white as you are portraying it.

All common traits of a demagogue. There is literally nothing unique about Donald Trump. He's just the latest iteration in a long line of detestable fucks who found a path to power in the inveterate stupidity of the general public.

(9,865 posts)...way and I'm not a biblical person. Seems so clear that not only the Trumpsters (Bannon, Miller et al) personally fit the profile but even more the anti-christ is an ideology of hate, greed, cruelty, violence, racism, lying. I'd say It's here.

(3,836 posts)I agree with you - plus there are so many versions of "The Bible" How does anyone know for sure which one is the "right" one. There are subtle differences in all the myriad texts.
And many scholars are of the mind that John may have actually tripping (quite literally) when he "received" Revelations. There are a few references throughout the Bible to momentary madness likely cause by ergot - (A mold on rye bread) "In the Greek New Testament the Gospel Tare is cited as ???ά??? Zizánia, a lolium rye which grows as darnel among good wheat and is host to the parasitic fungal infection Claviceps tulasne (purpurea), the ergot mould, in which ergoline alkaloids, mainly derivatives of lysergic acid, can be found."

"What's that in the bread, it's gone to my head" - Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice
If you consider the rigid and dark aspects of religion in the Dark Ages before the Christ, the terrible visions John had would most likely be typical of a bad trip in that time.

Post reformation: the papacy itself.
During the counter reformation the RCC conveniently decided that the book of daniel was recounting events in the distant past (preterism) and the book of revelations was referring only to the distant future end of times, thus getting the papacy off the hook by not a) being in the distant past and b) this is obviously not the end of times.
