Trump: 'We are stopping cold the attacks on Judeo-Christian values'

By Dan Merica, CNN
Updated 11:28 AM ET, Fri October 13, 2017

Washington (CNN) — President Donald Trump dove into America's culture wars on Friday, touting his administration for "returning moral clarity to our view of the world" and ending "attacks on Judeo-Christian values."

Trump, nine months into his presidency, has found it harder to get things done than the ease with which he made promises on the campaign trail, making speeches to adoring audiences like Friday's in Washington key to boosting the President's morale. And the audience at the Values Voter Summit, an annual socially conservative conference, didn't fail to deliver.

"We are stopping cold the attacks on Judeo-Christian values," Trump said to applause, before slamming people who don't say "Merry Christmas."

"They don't use the word Christmas because it is not politically correct," Trump said, complaining that department stores will use red and Christmas decorations but say "Happy New Year." "We're saying Merry Christmas again."

these are his priorities? Houston wrecked, Florida wrecked, Puerto Rico gone while he has fucking tantrums and Jared and his wife still have top secret clearences.

This is unacceptable, it is a disgrace and truly deplorable. Where is the military? Where is Congress?

but he is a master at punching people's buttons, aggravating simmering hatreds and fears, devisive pitting of people against one another. We here at DU see him for what he is. A fascist hate and fear monger.

I struggle every day not to hate that man. I struggle to just be present without freaking out.

About people complaining about Christmas, than people who actually complain about Christmas (if that makes since)

10. So, now when someone says "Merry Christmas", you have to wonder what's going on in their minds.

Remember when it was a nice thing? Was a time, even if you weren't Christian, you could tell yourself they meant well. Not anymore.

Same thing with the flag and the national anthem. I'm beginning to dread that moment a flag comes out or the anthem is played, feeling that someone is out there ready to jump on me if I don't show the right respect. I remember when the national anthem before a baseball game was fun.

Some practically snarl when they say it. Others will emphasize, "Merry CHRISTmas", just to make sure you know where they're coming from. But you're right, nowadays it's impossible to know what the motivation is, most of the time.

I wish employers would stop making their employees say anything about holidays. It really puts them in a bad spot, particularly if they have to say "Happy Holidays" to Christians.

12. What are these "Judeo-Christian values", and why are they being forced on me?

I don't say "Merry Christmas", ever. When will the "Judeo-Christian values" come to police break down my door?
