Related: About this forumGood News: Justice Department Announces Freedom to Build Houses of Worship
What this means is that religious organizations will have more official freedom to build houses of worship, regardless of zoning restrictions and other issues. Now, mosques will be able to open in converted houses in neighborhoods, and Pastafarian Dinner Houses can locate themselves for dinner services anywhere they want. Soon, you'll be able to visit your Hindu temple just over on the corner, too. The Department of Justice will help you locate your place of worship, regardless of religion, any damned place you please.
A breakthrough for First Amendment rights, I'd say. Yes, indeed...

(146,324 posts)I'm already planning the conversion of my home into a house of worship for the Flying Spaghetti Monster and Pastafarianism.
Dinner services between 5-9 P.M. Reservations recommended, since seating is limited in our converted dining room, which will serve as the sanctuary. Vieni e mangia! Prendi il sacramento con noi!

(49,533 posts)a great test of how "few" churches there were in a city was a "Pizza test." You'd grab the Yellow Pages of the city, and compare the sizes of the "Churches" and "Pizza" sections. Invariably the Churches section would be 3-4 times the size (at least) of the Pizza section. And since no one could possibly argue a city didn't have enough pizza restaurants, it was kind of foolish to think there weren't enough (or it was too hard to build) churches.
