Secular Coalition will bring lobbyists to Virginia Capitol by 2013 to advance atheist views

By Associated Press, Updated: Wednesday, May 30, 4:35 PM

RICHMOND, Va. — A national secular group is planning to have a lobbying interest in Virginia by next January with an unabashedly godless agenda.

Virginia is among the first group of states the Secular Coalition for America is targeting for opening chapters with trained lobbyists in the statehouses.

Spokeswoman Lauren Youngblood says SCA will focus on the states because that’s where the group sees the most egregious legislation emerging. SCA already lobbies Congress and federal agencies in Washington, espousing secular public laws free of religious influence.

The group this year spoke out against Virginia legislation that shields religious-affiliated child-placement organizations from being forced to place adoptive children with same-sex couples.

Agree. The headline is very misleading and could drive some away. cbayer May 2012 #5

Somebody has to step up and speak up against the lunatic fundementalist religionists. Atheists and agnostics are already there. But there are many theists on board, too. The SCA gladly courts all.

The big issue for many of us is the SCOTUS. We lose this November and we may not recover for decades, if ever

I hope they come to Florida soon. (Although I was surprised by a graphic elsewhere that seemed to indicate that FL is not one of the most religious states.)

not criticizing the poster, just AP, they aren't "atheistic views" but secular views, something anyone, religious or not, should uphold.

If they are going to pursue cases like the adoption issue mentioned in the article, I think there could be wide support from both theists and atheists.
