I've got a theory about conservative Christians

Conservative politicians don't seem too concerned about preserving the planet for future generations and I think they justify it in their minds with their religion. If you think Jesus is going to come back at any minute and whisk you away to heaven, why not plunder the planet for your own selfish gain? We don't give a damn about no stinking global warming. The end is near!

What? You say that doesn't exactly line up with religious doctrine? Hey, no problem. I'm sure it says something somewhere in the Bible about God providing for you if you say the right prayers. So what if we extrapolate that into Hummers and McMansions; blowing the tops off of mountains and causing apocalypse-inducing war? If it happens it must be God's will.

The Catholic Church and the Fundies remind their followers every day that the next minute might be their last. PREPARE FOR HEAVEN AND AVOID hell is the mantra. So devout pseudo Christians are taught three basic concepts. One is worship your Supreme God. Two is that this life is short and NOT important . And three is that you must create as many NEW SOULS as possible for that God.

Other than that the planet and its creatures be damned. Human beings in the likeness of GOD are superior to everything else.

There are many flavors of christians and many don't bare the remotest resemblance to what you describe here.

There's a name for that type of generalization.

While I think there are some who are as you describe, there are others who feel that the safety and health of the planet is of paramount importance, and they make religious arguments for that position. Here is one:

Throughout history ruling classes have maintained poer through divisions and through fear of imagined enemies.

The explanation, as usual, is a political one not a religious one.
