Abortion issue galvanizes voters in battleground Ohio

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-abortion-20121104,0,2991763.story

Religious activists are spurred to campaign in support of Republican Mitt Romney. 'I'm more jazzed up this year than any other election year,' says one.

By Alana Semuels, Los Angeles Times
November 4, 2012, 1:05 a.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mary Wright has been a devout Catholic and a Democrat her whole life, both erecting Obama signs in her yard and giving out communion in her parish. It never felt like a conflict to her, until this year.

That's because she recently received a letter from a fellow parishioner targeting her for her support of President Obama.

"I don't really know you," it said, "but I wonder how you can support a president who has attacked our church, and supports abortion on demand for all nine months of pregnancy."

As Wright has discovered, it's nearly impossible to spend time in Ohio this election year without noticing a surge of activity from Mitt Romney supporters and canvassers who say that values and abortion issues are paramount. Signs near highways encourage voters to stand up for religious freedom, newspaper ads slam Obama on abortion, and cars parked in the vicinity of Republican rallies are plastered with antiabortion literature.

2. Perhaps these anti-choice extremists will be put down for good in 2016

I believe Christie is pro-choice. If he wins their nomination he will assuredly be running against a pro-choice Democrat. These people will have nowhere to go. That is, if Christie doesn't have Romnesia and flip flop.

7. Christie will never get the nomination if he doesn't adopt an anti-choice position.

Bully pulpit priest, ministers and neocon televangelist feed misinformation for political gains at the very least. Time to remove tax free status to all offending church groups who preached political positions.

other non-profit institutions. The promotion of individual candidates is.

Do you wish to revoke the tax status of all non-profits or just churches?

Political stumping from the pulpit. Revoke their tax free status. They then can preach as desired.

9. Again, I ask. Just for churches?

This would require a change in the law that would effect only religious organizations. And that, in my opinion, would be a more egregious 1st amendment violation.

Holding and promoting political positions is not a violation.

to cast their vote based on this one issue? Yet do they change the law when the pukes get in? No. Bush had eight years. They don't change it because they know they can count on the fools to vote on that one issue. The hell with the kids after they are born though.

Fools can't see that the way to reduce abortions is a world where people think they can afford to raise a child. Where they have hope for a job with enough income to support a family. Where people have access to birth control because abstinence is not a methoud based in reality.

It's a good thing I had trash bags in my car. It took me so long I almost missed the Sign of Peace.

Met at the donut shop. Slipped into the back pews for the Nicene Creed, slipped out immediately after Communion. An "official" mass, then a smoke and back to the donut shop.

Powdered sugar was always the foil back home. "How was Our Lady of Dunkin Donuts this morning?" Thankfully said with a wink, though.

My kids give me the evil eye when I go out to smoke after the homily. The tradeoff is I let them leave after Communion and we get bagels.
