COLUMBUS, Ohio Mary Wright has been a devout Catholic and a Democrat her whole life, both erecting Obama signs in her yard and giving out communion in her parish. It never felt like a conflict to her, until this year.
That's because she recently received a letter from a fellow parishioner targeting her for her support of President Obama.
"I don't really know you," it said, "but I wonder how you can support a president who has attacked our church, and supports abortion on demand for all nine months of pregnancy."
As Wright has discovered, it's nearly impossible to spend time in Ohio this election year without noticing a surge of activity from Mitt Romney supporters and canvassers who say that values and abortion issues are paramount. Signs near highways encourage voters to stand up for religious freedom, newspaper ads slam Obama on abortion, and cars parked in the vicinity of Republican rallies are plastered with antiabortion literature.

Do you wish to revoke the tax status of all non-profits or just churches?

(146,218 posts)This would require a change in the law that would effect only religious organizations. And that, in my opinion, would be a more egregious 1st amendment violation.
Holding and promoting political positions is not a violation.

(5,420 posts)to cast their vote based on this one issue? Yet do they change the law when the pukes get in? No. Bush had eight years. They don't change it because they know they can count on the fools to vote on that one issue. The hell with the kids after they are born though.
Fools can't see that the way to reduce abortions is a world where people think they can afford to raise a child. Where they have hope for a job with enough income to support a family. Where people have access to birth control because abstinence is not a methoud based in reality.

Powdered sugar was always the foil back home. "How was Our Lady of Dunkin Donuts this morning?" Thankfully said with a wink, though.
