ST. GEORGE, Utah U.S. Mormons overwhelmingly share the party affiliation of Republican presidential nominee and fellow Mormon Mitt Romney, but there are liberal-leaning members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who are finding their voice and supporting President Obama in the election.
Crystal Young-Otterstrom, chairwoman of LDS Dems, an official caucus of the Utah Democratic Party, said the caucus met with other Mormon Democrats across the nation for the first time during this summers Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.
Still, Young-Otterstrom described Mormon Democrats as a minority within a minority.
According to a Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life study released in January, 74 percent of Mormons in the United States are Republicans or lean toward the Republican Party. Only 17 percent are Democrats or lean toward the Democratic Party.

(34,661 posts)every Democratic vote we can find. It's amazing how each election cycle we Southern Utah Dems keep trying to change the political landscape. Most of the Dems here are mover innners from the Midwest or California. You just tolerate the local system and get on with Desert living. Very closed society and inter action with most of the Mormon Community is usually at minimum. The running joke for non Mormons is,the magic gene pool,or the 10% club. Also,President Obama just yesterday signed a disaster relief authorization bill for Washington County and the City of Santa Clara. Irony being what it is,these are the same folks whom call our President every racial slur in the book and then some. Total hatred, and the man bails our their sorry asses. Now,that is a leader, not a panderer.
