Atheist group for seniors at La Costa Glen targeted: Atheists Anonymous members say backlash growing

CARLSBAD, Calif. - A group of seniors in Carlsbad say they are being persecuted, targeted and jeered at for their religion, or rather for their lack of religion.

In its promotional video, the La Costa Glen retirement community may look peaceful, but a group of seniors who live there says it is a battlefield.

"They said, 'She is a sinner. She's going to hell and she's going to burn forever,'" said 84-year-old Brigit Smith-Clarke. She said she heard two fellow residents say that about her because she founded Atheists Anonymous.

It is a group for the elderly residents at La Costa Glen who do not believe in God or just want to explore their options. It began with 16 members two years ago. Since then, their membership has grown to almost 100 seniors.

"............ Atheists are the least tolerant of any world view. The reason your atheist group studies religion is to mock it and publicly villify* those of faith. Go to any atheist forum on the internet whether it be Youtube or Craigslist and you will find the most hateful, arrogant and vicious people on the planet................ Your depiction of atheists as this peace loving little group of people who are persecuted by nasty Christians is pure propaganda. The situation is quite the opposite. Atheist live to persecute people of any religion. Atheism is a fascist mindset hell-bent on removing religion from the planet."

*villify: to build a villa for, as in Habitat for Humanity.

for what these religious people do? After trying endlessly to give religion credit for every nice thing any religious person has ever done, whether it was motivated by religion or not?

And religion has had the smell of bigotry through most of its existence, Charles, as you well know.

10. Of COURSE not! When religion causes good, it gets credit. When it does bad, its somebody else fault
