The front runner in the Pope contest looks like he's very conservative.

Pope Ratzinger appointed him to the post he holds at the moment - Archbishop of Milan.

From Wikipedia,

Critiques on Homosexuality and Feminism

In a review of Cardinal Scola's 1996 book, The Nuptial Mystery, Luke Timothy Johnson writes in Commonweal magazine that Scola's "condemnation not only of abortion and of genetic engineering, and of birth control, but also of feminism, of homosexuality, and of cultural traits Scola associates with feminism and homosexuality, namely individualism, libertinism, relativism, narcissism, and even nihilism.[12][13]

According to the critic Johnson, "the cardinal’s logic, in fact, seems to be that feminism is responsible for homosexuality, because the more women act like men, the more men are likely to want to have sex with other men."

From Huffington post,

Scola is recognized as a conservative in the Church, rejecting the idea of women priests and denouncing consumerism. His association with the conservative Italian movement Communion and Liberation has raised eyebrows.

Scola was a theology student when he was invited to join the group, which blends political activism with faith-based fervor as it seeks to influence Italy's decision-making. Many prominent Italian politicians have been associated with the movement; in the 1970s Scola is said to have instructed former premier Silvio Berlusconi, then a real estate developer, in philosophy.

Go ahead boys. Keep appointing clowns like this. In 50 years there will be no Catholic church as we now know it.

century.

good going rcc--dismiss or ignore half your population, tell women THEY are too blame for all the ills of society, and turn a blind eye to the evil within your own organization. frankly, I hope it doesn't take 50 years for this organization to go the way of the dodo bird.

The cardinals have all been appointed by two very conservative popes. Everyone in the power structure is conservative.

They couldn't find a "turnaround cardinal" even if they wanted to.

Which is exactly what they will get in their drive for their own form of theological purity.

and the ingrown nature of the Vatican, the selection process, cult of secrecy invites corruption at every turn.

58% of the cardinals who will be voting were appointed to that position by Ratzo, and the rest by JP2. Most of them were with Ratzo's blessing, to use a figure of speech.

My mother is very hopeful for a good new pope, among her best friends are a former priest and a former nun who married each other after leaving their religious communities. She's also one of the people who voted for equal marriage in WA, and she'll be eighty this year.

Oh, don't tell her I said that...she figures if Jack Benny can stop at 39, so can she!
