Is Pope Francis an exorcist?

An incident with a young man after celebrating Mass in St. Peter's Square is fueling speculation

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Is Pope Francis an exorcist?

The question has been swirling ever since Francis laid his hands Sunday on the head of a young man after celebrating Mass in St. Peter’s Square. The young man heaved deeply a half-dozen times, convulsed and shook, and then slumped in his wheelchair as Francis prayed over him.

The television station of the Italian bishops’ conference said it had surveyed exorcists, who agreed that Francis either performed an exorcism or a prayer to free the man from the devil.

The Vatican was more cautious Tuesday, saying Francis “didn’t intend to perform any exorcism. But as he often does for the sick or suffering, he simply intended to pray for someone.” Fueling the speculation is Francis’ obsession with the devil, a frequent subject of his homilies.

This would be truly hilarious, if so many didn't fall for all this nonsense.

Who am I kidding...it is hilarious

ways to make it more interesting. I guess Hollywood has spoiled me. Healing people and casting out demons is nothing but theatre. It's fake when t.v. evangelists do it and it's fake when the Pope does it.

this article. I'm not sure if he did or he didn't, all I know is that if he did, it was a sham.

In the last few paragraphs they quote "exorcism experts" who swear that it was an exorcism, including one man who said he performed a "long exorcism" later on the same boy. I think the Vatican is trying to have it both ways here. They issue a denial for the people who aren't comfortable with the exorcism rite, while giving a wink to the true believers.

It is still a church teaching that a person can be possessed by a demon or devil.

Yeah, just ignore that number on the calendar that says we are in the 21st century.

preachers who do this shit have a different attitude when a priest performs an exorcism. I don't care how sincere people who participate in exorcisms and faith-healings are, it's nothing but trickery and foolishness.
