[Episcopal News Service] Steve Prices white gardenia boutonniere and diamond pinkie ring were bittersweet tributes among a sea of joy at the June 27 Celebration of Equality at St. Johns Pro-Cathedral in Los Angeles.
From Los Angeles to New York, worshippers gathered across the church to celebrate in very public and very personal ways, after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and ruled Californias ban on gay marriage (Proposition 8) unconstitutional.
The courts decisions extended many previously denied federal benefits to same-sex couples married in the U.S. states that allow such unions and paved the way for gay marriages to resume in California.

I am so proud of my church and my bishop. At the end of the march my bishop and other clergy came to my parish and we had an evensong in honor of Pride Day.

I don't agree - it's a civil rights issue, maybe one of the last ones left, and considering how many churches are still bigoted and hateful about LGBT issues, I think this church did a good thing by advertising to the whole city that they aren't like that. I'm not religious but I think it's great when a church does something that actually seems consistent with what Christianity purports to be about.
