(CNN) Mmm sacralicious?
A Chicago restaurant is pushing the boundaries of poor taste with its October Burger of the Month.
Kuma's Corner, a heavy-metal themed joint with an "Eat beef; bang your head" ethos, says its new burger is an homage to Ghost, a Swedish band that performs satanic songs in Catholic clerical garb.
"The Ghost" burger features a "Communion wafer garnish," a white, unleavened disc bearing the imprint of a cross and a crown.

Weve been extremely fortunate to show host to thousands of dedicated eaters from locales near and far. As such, we feel it is our obligation to give back to the communities that support us and support our love for meat and heavy metal

This joint looks like a Hooters for morons.

(3,186 posts)I say, let them knock themselves out. What ever floats their boat. Whatever trips their trigger. Yada, yada...
I don't imagine that it would taste very good, though.
I'm not Catholic, but even if I was, I doubt that this would bother me. So if the point is to somehow offend people, I personally think that it fails big time.
YMMV

(22,340 posts)They support locally grown and produced food. They have a designated charity of the week that they encourage donations to. The food looks amazing. They offer a veggie burger option for each of their burgers. Hooters is all about shitty food with half naked waitresses. This place looks like it relies on neither of those. Next time I'm in Chicago, I'm going.

(71,265 posts)As an Episcopalian we also believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Communion bread and wine. I find it offensive.

I'm more a big-picture person myself and think business owners would do well to think long-term .
I've a son that lives in Chicago, and like a good burger.
I'll check to see if this antic appeals to his appetite.

(22,340 posts)their appearance on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives would do more for their appeal than anything else. I would also venture to guess that the people who would take offense at this probably weren't planning on going there in the first place.

(22,340 posts)Just didn't want people to think this was taking a consecrated host and putting it on a burger.

(7,670 posts)consecrated or no, it has no real power, its not the flesh of a demigod, I don't understand people's need to be offended over such things.

(146,338 posts)It was done to make a statement in bad taste. It apparently succeeded in promoting awareness of this restaurant, which was clearly the goal.

(146,338 posts)Anyone can buy communion bread. Without consecration, it's just a cracker. With consecration, it is what people believe it is.
