Sniffing Out the Future
It happened again--I detected an odor in advance of it happening.
I don't know if anyone recalls the story I posted a year or two ago about going to meet my friend to shop. On the way, I detected a smell in my car that I could not place. It was a pleasant smell. I think I thought it kind of "flowery" at the time.
Later on, while shopping with my friend, I bought a dill-scented candle in a little boutique. When I lit it that evening, I placed the scent--it was the one I'd smelled in the car. So I smelled the candle before I bought it.
So today I had another such incident.
I went into my kitchen early this morning. The odor was of something being heated that was not especially pleasant.
I am temporarily using my portable dishwasher as my built-in has an electrical short and I'm waiting for the repairman to come over to fix it.
I put whatever dishes were left on the counter into the dishwasher and rolled the dishwasher to the butler's pantry to wash.
Plugged it in and set the controls.
About 20" later I went in and the dishwasher was on "dry" cycle--way too early for that. It takes about 40" to do a wash in this dishwasher.
I examined the controls and saw that I had mixed them up.
But most interesting of all was the odor. It was of dirty plates being heated in a dishwasher without any water.
That is what I had smelled earlier in the morning.
Now, this little event is not important in the least. It's just little "time slips" like this, though, that make me wonder.

A sensitive sense of smell is both blessing and curse. 
I sometimes catch scents of perfume - like roses - that shouldn't be in the air at all. And sometimes I'll catch the faintest whiff of mothball -an odor that reminds me of my Italian grandmother - but it's never connected to something that happens later. Just random weird odors
Your nose is psychic! I wonder if there's some phenomenon that's been named like that.
Worth a google! You should find out what a winning lottery ticket smells like 
and when you smell that, go buy a Powerball ticket immediately!
