'After prayerful consideration,' KC-area Catholic school kicks boy out to punish his mom

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by meow2u3 (a host of the Catholicism and Orthodox Christianity group).

Will Muller, a rising sixth grader at St. John LaLande Catholic School in Blue Springs, has been kicked out — “disenrolled” after much prayer, according to a July 19 letter from the principal, Susan Martin. This is not because Will, who is 11, was struggling academically or did anything wrong. On the contrary, “he’s an ‘A’ student,” said the mother of a classmate, and liked by everybody. “My son would say he’s the only one who never talks or gets in any trouble.” According to the letter, he’s being expelled because his parents, Paul and Hollee Muller, have “stated both verbally and in writing you do not agree with nor do you support the teachings of the Catholic Church. After prayerful consideration and discussion among our school administration it is obvious we no longer have a partnership with you, since the values of your family are not in alignment with those of our school. Therefore, the school administration has made the decision to disenroll your child from our school.” TOP VIDEOS

Jesus isn't letting everyone into Heaven either. Why should his schools be any different?

Christianity is about "Believe this or suffer (eternal death / Hell / punishment of some kind)."

Jesus says that he'll ultimately tell some collection of people to fuck off:

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Pretty sure that Catholic Jesus is still doing this:

https://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/what-we-believe

What We Believe

[...]
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
[...]

Jesus certainly believed in Hell and spoke about it on several occasions.

And, more to the point, it is certainly up to this school to decide which sort of Catholics they want to see in it, and what "version" of Catholicism they want to apply to how they run it.

20. Fundamentalism.

I never understand the outrage over "Religious School Behaves Consistently With Being Religious School".

What is hypocritical or surprising about that?

People send their children to these schools so that their precious children need not come into contact with unbelievers.

What is so hard to grasp about that?

If you don't believe you don't belong. Send son to a school that reflects your views.
If you join a club and break their rules you get booted out. Churches are clubs.

Back in the day, some protestant parents would send their kids to the local Catholic School because
it was excellent and the kids graduating from there got good college scholarships.

But the parents didn't fight with the school. They kept a low profile.

He came in guns blazing, banning books and dissent as well.

Exactly what Catholic values do the Mullers not share?

Hollee was vice president of the school’s advisory board, and she objected to changes at the school since Father Sean McCaffery became pastor of the parish a year ago.

New priest yanked library books, banned Duolingo app
“The priest came rolling in hot,” Hollee said, “yanking books” from the school library, including one about a polar bear with two mommies and all of Rick Riordan’s work, some of which features characters who are gay, bisexual, lesbian and trans.

As Hollee herself sums up her supposed heresy, “I don’t think being blatantly homophobic is a teaching of the Catholic Church.”

The excerpt does not specify the teachings/differences.

Might be pro-choice which many Catholics support and almost all of them are still allowed Holy Communion.

I’m shocked at some of the narrow-minded and bigoted responses to this article on a supposedly Democratic website (in the Catholic group, of all places).

As Democrats, we should all be supporting this family, regardless of our cultures and religions.

If someone gets kicked out of the local country club because the club requires jackets in the dining room and someone is not wearing a jacket in the dining room, why is that a concern of mine?

This family is paying cash money to an organization which puts a lot of effort into fighting against the rights of other people, and paying settlements for child molesters. I guess those other people and victims don't matter, but I don't support that organization.

because her parents had gotten divorced and she was being raised by a single mother...

Never mind my mother has been baptised and was nominally Catholic, because her father was Catholic, and my grandmother was trying to honor and continue that by her choice of schools, despite being a rather irreligious nominally Methodist herself.

How dare my grandmother divorce her abusive alcoholic adulterous Catholic husband and raise two kids on her own by working three jobs with just a high school education? No Catholic school for your kids!
