(not my parish) has bingo every Saturday night at 7:30. Parishioners do the work, non-parishioners are the main attendees.

I'm sure it serves a social purpose as well as a monetary one. Though located in an older city area, worshipers come from further out and the church is not impoverished. I'm sure it would be okay financially if there were no bingo games.

Next spring a new, large casino will open in our city, just a few miles from this church.
It will be interesting to see how the casino impacts the attendance and proceeds of the Sat. night bingo. Obviously, other areas have dealt with the advent of casinos.
