NEW YORK Cardinal Timothy Dolans positive reaction to this weeks decision by organizers of New Yorks annual St. Patricks Day parade to allow gay groups to march under their own banners initially drew charitable responses in many Catholic Church circles.
But it didnt take long for conservative church critics to turn.
After initially signaling his grudging acceptance, William Donohue of the Catholic League came back with a revised view when he realized that more than one gay group could be allowed to march in the future.
The goal of these activists, supported by the corporate elite, is to neuter the religious element of the parade, Donohue said. This is an Irish-Catholic parade, and if what comes after the hyphen is cut, so will the parades support, beginning with the Catholic League.

Donohue speaks for a small coterie of conservative Catholics, and no one else.

Tee-hee.
Donohue has *killer* material. Seriously, he should do stand-up.

(5,167 posts)great celebrating that part of my heritage, even though none of my forebears were New Yorkers.
As you know, you move swiftly along the route and disperse quickly when at the end.
We marched in cap & gown, with coat underneath on chilly March days.
We gals were in heels, something I can't imagine today.
Good memories.
