December 7, 2014 4:28pm
The Catholic Church's social action arm on Saturday launched a "solidarity appeal" to dioceses to extend help to people hit hard by Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit).
National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice, and Peace /Caritas Philippines head Cáceres Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona made the appeal in a letter to 85 bishops nationwide.
To the unaffected dioceses, we call on you to organize relief operations to the affected Dioceses nearest you or you may choose to send your donations to the Alay Kapwa account for the relief operations of the Catholic Church network, he said, according to an article posted Sunday on the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines news site.
He said that while the Church is financing prepositioning of goods and emergency relief operations of the dioceses, emergency funds from Alay Kapwa are not enough.
