Tell me about the theology of praying to saints.
Is this still practiced today?

(24,774 posts)Praying to saints is like a customer who, instead of going straight to the head honcho of the company, communicates with a member of middle or upper management whom the boss trusts. The owner of the company, who is busy, has no time to speak directly with their numerous customers, but he or she will take the word of the managers.
Praying to saints is pretty much like that. The saint is in heaven, thus closer to God than we are, so the saint is in a better position to "pass our message to God."
Praying to the Blessed Mother is pretty much like the Comcast customer in the news who got results by speaking directly to the mother of the Comcast CEO because he knew he wasn't going to get anywhere by complaining to customer service reps, who would humiliate him, if not on the phone, on his next bill. If you can't get ahold of the boss, or if the boss blows you off, speak directly to the boss' mother; she gets results.

(50,130 posts)...I was taught that there is one mediator between God and man. So the idea of numerous intercessors is very foreign to me. And I especially am skeptical about the idea of praying to Mary. I just don't have that history with the concept of Mary as a person of influence over humans. But I get what you are saying about your beliefs.
