Officials say a Catholic homeless shelter in Iowa City has filled up a month after opening.

The three-bedroom Catholic Worker House provides up to 30 days of shelter to those in need, The Iowa City Press-Citizen (http://icp-c.com/2aXzCpY ) reports.

David Goodner, a live-in volunteer, officially opened the facility with the help of fellow volunteer Emily Sinnwell. Goodner says two recently released prisoners and a single mother with two teenage sons are currently staying in the shelter.

According to Goodner, they have had to turn people away because the house is full, but the volunteers have managed to pay for hotel stays for a few people.
