Several months ago, when he was discussing immigration, I told my husband his statements reminded me of things we had recently heard in a documentary on the Holocaust, the pre-war years. He has only worsened in his rhetoric. He is pompous and profoundly ignorant. He may be a brilliant entrepreneur, I don't really know, I just know he has done well for himself, but as a human, he kinda blows.

And a fake, but he is not anti-Semitic, if that is the question.

In fact, his favorite daughter, Ivanka is an Orthodox Jew. I've seen her myself at shul.

(I presume one of his many wives was Jewish or she converted.)

Regarding the substance of Trump, I feel pretty certain he would be like Nixon -- whom everyone remembers as a hard right guy, but was actually very progressive for the times (and for a Republican) in his actions. (His rhetoric, in contrast, was far right.)

Basically, a Republican Bill Clinton.

From Washington Post Dana Milbank:

Last week, I wrote that it's necessary to call Trump the racist, bigot and demagogue that he is. His supporters' reaction to my column confirmed that he's appealing to the ugliest impulses: My inbox filled with anti-Semitic, anti-gay, anti-immigrant, anti-black and, particularly, anti-Muslim invective. The next day Trump gave a speech to a Jewish group and portrayed them as money-obsessed "negotiators."

I wish we preserved the unique place that the Holocaust and Hitler and the Nazis occupy in our history and would not be quick to attach these tags to individuals who are despicable but still, not the same.
