(Jewish Group) Fighting Anti-Semitism Has Become A Partisan Game

(THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP! RESPECT!!)

Last week, both Republican and Democratic representatives in Congress were revealed to have met with anti-Semites. But only one side was reported in the mainstream media: GOP Congressmen’s association with Holocaust denier Chuck Johnson.

Not so news of Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s association with Hezbollah supporter Abbas Hamideh, who has called Jews “shlomos” — an anti-Semitic slur — and advocated for the ethnic cleansing of Israeli Jews.

Tlaib did face some censure, but mainly from the right, just as the GOP’s meeting with a Holocaust denier sparked anger mostly from the left. In other words, each event provoked fury almost exclusively on the other side of the aisle. Almost no one was outraged by both.

But this sad state of affairs, in which opposition to anti-Semitism is more a partisan game than a true agenda, is par for the course.

The juxtaposition of congresspersons on opposite ends of the political spectrum associating with anti-Semites, only to meet with outrage from their political rivals, is part and parcel of a broader phenomenon in which folks on the right focus on left-wing anti-Semitism, turning a blind eye to right-wing anti-Semitism, with the left doing the same in the opposite direction.

But let’s be more detailed about the political dynamics.

On the right, extremists are encouraging crazies with guns to attack anyone who is not white, which usually includes Jews. Jews always end up being the targets in racist movements.

On the left, extremists are being generated due to Israel and the conditions of the Palestinians. And it’s only going to get worse. Israel cannot keep up the current situation with the Palestinians for decades, as Netanyahu wants to. I am a Zionist but I think Israel is digging itself in a hole here. And we have to be careful: just being a Palestinian activist does NOT make someone an anti-Semite (Though Hamideh has done some bad stuff.)

Jews in the US are being split as Israel slides to the right and the Palestinian cause gets taken up by some on the left. This is not irrational. And Netanyahu deserves a lot of blame.

"On the left, extremists are being generated due to Israel and the conditions of the Palestinians."

Some, yes. Some are just antisemitic.

Or it's a blend. Mainly people on the left apply double-standards on Israel or unquestioningly believe lies about Israel.

Most of which lies are so patently false that it's pretty clear that it's just antisemitic beliefs masquerading as a concern about Israel.

The article, and the very post to which you responded, demonstrate that anti-Semitism on the left gets "excused" because of Israel. It is a common excuse from both sides, but is more common on the left. The right uses their "love" of Israel as an example of how they "aren't/can't be" anti-Semitic. The left uses the actions of Israel to "explain" (at best) or "excuse" (at worst) anti-Semitism. This is also more common with the "IAmA" crowd (as in, "I am a Jew/Zionist/simply a pro-Palestinian).

Until both houses clean up their own shit, Jews will continue to get attacked from both sides, more violently from the right, on most occasions, with the left providing cover.
