(Jewish Group) The Right Uses Anti-Semitism To Protect Israel. The Left Uses Israel As An Excuse

The Right Uses Anti-Semitism To Protect Israel. The Left Uses Israel As An Excuse For Anti-Semitism.

(THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP! RESPECT!!)

In what has now become a weekly ritual, Ilhan Omar is once again the center of attention for her ruminations on Israel and its supporters in the United States.

Unlike previous incidents for which she apologized or retracted her comments, this time Omar appears to be standing by them, and also unlike previous incidents, this time it appears that tangible consequences are coming down the road.

Omar’s statement that “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country” was a new spin on her critique of the U.S.-Israel relationship by introducing the explicit charge that people – presumably AIPAC or pro-Israel Americans, based on her previous comments in this ongoing thread – are pressuring members of Congress not to merely support Israel but to pledge fealty to it.

When Congresswoman Nita Lowey tweeted, “I am saddened that Rep. Omar continues to mischaracterize support for Israel,” Omar immediately returned to questions of allegiance, tweeting back at Lowey, “I should not be expected to have allegiance/pledge support to a foreign country in order to serve my country in Congress or serve on committee.”

Israel's best interests aren't always the best interests of the U.S. We should have rigorous debate regarding our foreign policy. Was it in the best interests of the U.S. to violate the Iran peace agreement? Was it in the best interests of Israel for the U.S. to pull out of the peace plan? Bibi and Trump praised the move, what do you think Behind the Aegis? Be careful what you answer you may get called an anti-Semite.

statement of purpose:

"Discuss Judaism's beliefs, share faith experiences, discuss anti-Semitism, post prayer requests, discuss Jewish faith, traditions, religious heroes, holidays, etc."

Did you even read the NOTE posted about that at the beginning of the post?

&quot THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP! RESPECT!!) "

Your post belongs either in the General Discusion forum, or the Israeli-Palestinian group, and this definitely isn't a place where someone poses geo-political questions, and then warn a poster that his answer may "get him called an anti-Semite"

but let me entertain you for a brief moment. This would NOT have even been an issue if Representative Omar hadn't insinuated that people who she doesn't agree with on this issue were pushing allegiance to a foreign country.

If you want to have a useful dialog, you don't setup a strawman argument, and accuse someone who may not agree with you of "pushing allegiance to a foreign country"

2. The Democratic party is going the UK's Labour party route. I didn't see this coming.

I feel like I've been hit by a train. I've spent the last 3 years fighting back against Labour antisemitism only to find the same antisemitic scourge within my own party. Antisemitism has become the new social justice.

4. I repsectfully don't agree with your assessment, and I will use Senator Harris's statement on this

to make the point.

Here was Senator Harris statement:

"We all have a responsibility to speak out against anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and all forms of hatred and bigotry, especially as we see a spike in hate crimes in America. But like some of my colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus, I am concerned that the spotlight being put on Congresswoman Omar may put her at risk.

We should be having a sound, respectful discussion about policy. You can both support Israel and be loyal to our country. I also believe there is a difference between criticism of policy or political leaders, and anti-Semitism. At the end of the day, we need a two-state solution and a commitment to peace, human rights, and democracy by all leaders in the region ― and a commitment by our country to help achieve that."

What Senator Harris did was articulate all the issues involved, and what it encompasses completely.

She made it very clear in her statement that it is NOT appropriate to infer to someone you disagree with on an issue that they have allegiance to a foreign country, or are pushing others to have allegiance to a foreign country, Israel in this case.

That some cannot seem to grasp how offensive that is to infer allegiance to a foreign country, Israel in this context, is disturbing, and that is why Senator Harris made it very clear that " You can both support Israel and be loyal to our country."

Something that Representative Omar seems to have a problem understanding, along with some others.

I would be quite surprised if Rep. Omar continued to bring up dual loyalties or alligiance to a foreign government in discussion or debates on this subect, but you never know

Clyburn came to Omar’s defense Wednesday, lamenting that many of the media reports surrounding the recent controversy have omitted mentioning that Omar, who was born in Somalia, had to flee the country to escape violence and spent four years in a Kenyan refugee camp before coming to the United States.

Her experience, Clyburn argued, is much more empirical — and powerful — than that of people who are generations removed from the Holocaust, Japanese internment camps during World War II and the other violent episodes that have marked history.

“I’m serious about that. There are people who tell me, ‘Well, my parents are Holocaust survivors.’ ‘My parents did this.’ It’s more personal with her,” Clyburn said. “I’ve talked to her, and I can tell you she is living through a lot of pain.”

been through the Holocaust, or the Japanese interment camps appreciate his sensitivity.

Still, I do not subscribe that the Democratic party is moving in the direction of the labor party, which is split among themselves on this in the UK as was evidenced by some MP from Labor leaving that party.

Because some Democrats from the left are pushing the theme that it is a valid argument to question one's loyalty to the U.S. because they disagree with them on issues related to Israel and the middle east, represents a very small faction in the Democratic party, who happen to be getting a lot of attention, not because it is the consensus, but because the offensive nature of that accusation is attention grabbing.

That isn't to say that there are NOT anti-Semitic sentiments among some Democrats. That was seen even here against Senator Schumer and others, by some openly accusing them of working for the Israeli government, or spewing the LIE that Jewish members of Congress hold dual citizenship

https://www.politifact.com/facebook-fact-checks/statements/2019/feb/25/blog-posting/no-members-congress-dont-have-dual-citizenship-isr/

Hell, Dianne Rheem(sic), PBS, tried to pull the dual citizenship card on Bernie Sanders in 2016.

I'll digress briefly from the purpose of the group to say that if the Democratic party is not able to get a handle on the theme that a few seem to want to pursue in using the question of allegiance or dual-loyalty to a foreign power against Congress people, not only are they playing into the hands of their opponents in 2020, but they will leave the Democratic party fractured, which might just be their objective.
