There's the B612 Foundation whose task is to do that very thing.

So, my friend. Scoffing at this task does not impress.

Now, if we could restore, and increase, funding for NASA maybe we could get something like this done, or even more.

We've already have high 90's percentage of the Earth crusher asteroids located and orbits calculated. Now we need to get the continent busters, the province destroyers, the city smashers.

That will need new telescopes in space, fortunately they don't need to be Hubble sized. A smaller telescope works just fine; it all depends on the digital camera. Go to the link above in this post for some ideas.

Picture the NASA Administrator in a Victorian-era setting and in appropriate attire, exclaiming in a measured, yet stern voice:

"By Jove, we shall track each and every asteroid that dares show its bloody face to the good peoples of Earth!"

The title of the article is comical (not the subject) and would only be more so if it read - "NASA swears an oath to track every asteroid near Earth...."

Seriousness reinstated, though:

The House Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics, a subcommittee of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology meets tomorrow to address NASA funding:

Subcommittee on Space Hearing - NASA Authorization Act of 2013
Subcommittee on Space | 2318 Rayburn House Office Building Washington, D.C. 20515 | Jun 19, 2013 10:00am

This is to be broadcast live on the web at that URL.

The House Subcommittee on Space consists of the following members:

Dana Rohrabacher (R-California)
Frank D. Lucas (R-Oklahoma)
Michael McCaul (R-Texas)
Mo Brooks (R-Alabama)
Larry Bucshon (R-Indiana)
Steve Stockman (R-Texas)
Bill Posey (R-Florida)
David Schweikert (R-Arizona)
Jim Bridenstine (R-Oklahoma)
Chris Stewart (R-Utah)

Democrat Members (sic: Democratic)

Donna F. Edwards, MD, Ranking Member
Suzanne Bonamici (D-Oregon)
Dan Maffei (D-New York)
Joe Kennedy III (D-Massachusetts)
Derek Kilmer (D-Washington)
Ami Bera (D-California)
Marc Veasey (D-Texas)
Julia Brownley (D-California)
Frederica Wilson (D-Florida)

Now would be a good time to lobby for increased NASA funding.
