Related: About this forumAtlantic Ocean to Disappear in 200 Million Years?
Europe and North America could be joined, creating new mountain chains.
The continents may become a single landmassor "supercontinent"and the ocean would close.

A newly discovered crack in the Earth's crust could pull North America and Europe together and cause the Atlantic Ocean to vanish in about 220 million years, scientists say.
A new map of the seafloor off the coast of Iberiathe region of Europe that includes Portugal and Spainhas revealed what could be the birth of a new subduction zone.
Subduction zones happen when tectonic platesthe large rock slabs that make up the Earth's crustcrash into one another. The edge of the heavier plate slides, or subducts, below the lighter plate. It then melts back into the Earth's mantlethe layer just below the crust.
The discovery of this new subduction zone, published on June 6 in the journal Geology, could signal the start of an extended cycle that fuses continents together into a single landmassor "supercontinent"and closes our oceans.

The volcanic Mid Atlantic Ridge is causing the ocean to expand. Perhaps its relative proximity to Iberia is causing the subduction zone to form.

I must visit the east coast before it's too late.
And I thought we'd just split off from them a little while ago.
