Scientists around the globe are bracing themselves for what could be the best view yet of the black hole ahead of its collision with a gas cloud.
The black hole, called "Sagittarius A*", could provide a stunning series of galactic fireworks if it collides with the gas cloud - which has a mass about three times that of Earth - currently heading in its direction.
First identified by German scientists three years ago, they originally believed the collision would occur last year. However, astronomers have predicted that the collision will now happen sometime in March.
The gas cloud, dubbed "G2", is expected to travel so close to the black hole that it will cause it to heat up and create a chain of sensational bright lights.

(13,485 posts)Sorry... I don't mean that. I just dismantled a 178 volt NiMH battery and lived. So I just had to say that.
This is a very cool discovery and I've been reading about it for a while. I wonder what's going to happen? or what happened 15000 years ago? Very cool.

(45,851 posts)The pack I mean.
It was a 2003 Honda Hybrid. I have kept the battery alive for 2 extra years with a grid charger I built and wired in but the car slid off the road this winter and busted the front end to a point that it wasn't worth the cost of fixing. But I know batteries very well and pulled the Hybrid battery out before getting rid of the car. I have 2 choices... refurbish the individual cell packs and sell them on Ebay or I'll wire them 16V and add another 600 AH to my solar panel storage. Last thing I want to do is have someone dump them. They are a great set of cells. Boy am I off topic.

(6,154 posts)Just an FYI Sagittarius A* is the central giant black hole at the heart of the milky way. Not sure if the article mentioned that or not.
