(16,846 posts)It's overpriced and their customer service has really gone down. I don't pay for tv (have antenna) and I'd really like to have the same arrangement for my internet.

(15,189 posts)All the crappy shit on the internet. And I told her there ought to be something called the outernet for smart people to access. She was really smart and worked at JPL just before the internet was brought into homes. 2 of her co-workers imagined having this internet at home whenever you wanted. LOL!

(16,423 posts)Servers stationed on satellites in orbit to keep pesky law-enforcement away?
Renting that server-space is how the Tessier-Ashpool-Clan started their industrial empire?

(4,840 posts)would be a huge advantage and I'm sure that would be out of the jurisdiction of many governments if not all. But the downside would be the potential for criminal or exploitative behavior and misuse of data of companies out of reach of prosecution.

(4,840 posts)With the purchase of the requisite components, you can now receive updated data from space:
http://store.outernet.is
Also Outernet is currently holding an indiegogo campaign to manufacture a smaller device here:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/lantern-one-device-free-data-from-space-forever#/story
You can reserve one for yourself, like I did, by contributing $149 now. I figure it will be worth it to never pay for the internet again.
