High in the sky where the cirrus ice crystal clouds form, jet contrails draw their crisscross patterns. Now researchers have found that these elevated ice cloud trails can influence temperatures on the ground and affect local climate, according to a team of geographers.

When no planes flew in the USA the result was increased temps, according to one study.

These results are questioned by some.

I lived out in the country back then, and I'll never forget how QUIET it was those nights. I remember being out at ~ 3:00am (my dog always had to go out at that time - everynight). The noise floor, background noise, whatever was just lower. It was really weird....

The stark, almost errie silence in the night sky. Nothing... No jets up high, no personal craft puttering along. Just nothing.

What made it worse was the c130 flying 3k feet off the deck right over the house piercing that silence. It was ominous.
