Astronauts no longer have to hurtle into space in an aluminum can.
SpaceX, the space transportation company founded by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, today released new photos of the interior digs of its Crew Dragon capsule and they're beautiful. The inside has already been compared to a luxury sports car, and there's no doubt that Tesla-style design had an influence in the new way we'll be taking astronauts to space.
The Crew Dragon capsule is a project with NASA to develop a new way to carry astronauts to and from the International Space Station. The SpaceX capsule has already had a few tests, including one of its emergency escape system seen below.

(19,264 posts)It is the single greatest limitation to what we can accomplish in space and on other bodies in the solar system. It really comes down to it either gets cheaper or we don't do any of the big things. I have no idea if Space X will accomplish their goals but at least they have a plausible scenario for driving that cost down.
Also not lying I would jump in a heartbeat to go into space even LEO for a few days. Thanks for sharing.
The really cool stuff will be when they move to Raptor engines = methane. One huge reason to use methane and it had nothing to do with earth lift.

(14,255 posts)The interview with Scarlett Johansson was kinds boring and over-long. IMO and all that. She is very pretty and seems very nice, is all I got out of it. They should have just put a giant picture of her in the background, and spent the whole time talking to Musk.

Oh, and the older I get, the more I hate new automobiles. I never did like them, and I'm growing to like them less. Pretty soon now it's going to cost more to replace the fancy electronic ant-theft ignition key of my wife's car than the car itself is worth.
