Some People Can Literally Feel The Violence They See on Screen - Here's How It Works

Not your average synaesthesia.

LINDSAY DODGSON, BUSINESS INSIDER

Pau can't watch films very often. When she does, everything that physically happens to characters on screen she feels to a certain extent on her own body.

"Films for me, or trailers, or whatever, are just a continuous chain of violence, punching, slapping, shooting, falling and, worse still, kissing or touching people's faces," she said.

"I've always hated screen kisses (or never been able to watch them) because… well I don't want to kiss them, do I?"

Pau has something called mirror-touch synesthesia, which is a brain condition that seems to amplify people's sensation of touch so much they can essentially physically feel what others feel.
