NASA's "Name the rover" contest ends 9pm PST, Jan 27th

NASA picked 9 finalist names for the Mars 2020 rover, submitted by grade school kids across the country, and you can vote on them until Sunday, January 27th, 9pm PST (midnight EST).

  • Endurance, K-4, Oliver Jacobs of Virginia
  • Tenacity, K-4, Eamon Reilly of Pennsylvania
  • Promise, K-4, Amira Shanshiry of Massachusetts

  • Perseverance, 5-8, Alexander Mather of Virginia
  • Vision, 5-8, Hadley Green of Mississippi
  • Clarity, 5-8, Nora Benitez of California

  • Ingenuity, 9-12, Vaneeza Rupani of Alabama
  • Fortitude, 9-12, Anthony Yoon of Oklahoma
  • Courage, 9-12, Tori Gray of Louisiana

I admit a personal interest in this because my company made a bunch of small to medium sized parts for the rover, and I personally inspected quite a few of them.

Too pompous.

"Grit" would be a good one, though.

I'd have suggested "Xena," since she always seemed to have a love-hate relationship with Mars.

Plus I like two syllables. Easy to read and write.

Perseverance is hardly spellable to a lot of Mericans. ( spellable apparently isn’t a word🤷🏼?♀️
