(3,557 posts)I know it is our history that the Europeans conquered and completely decimated the various cultures in the Americas, but it doesn't stop me from being saddened by it.
When I was a kid my father would read books about history and whatnot to me and my brother when we were eating breakfast before going to school. After reading Robinson Crusoe my father read a book to us that was a true account of what the Spanish did in South America. That particular book and various accounts have stuck with me for my life. The Spaniards prided themselves in the quantity of artifacts and texts that they destroyed. It's a shame that within 30 years most of the pre-columbian cultures in South America were nearly wiped out.

(6,476 posts)I hope they, at least, repatriate it. They didn't destroy it, which I'm happy about but I've never seen this before.....I wonder how many of Montezuma's people know about it! What a cruel history.
Thanks.
