They have a new theory as to how you are "born Christian", and stray, and come back, and are redeemed, and "born again"... but they have a theory about the Earth being 6000 years old, too!

I wonder how so many people in the world are not born Christian. You know, like people all over the world, or people born before Jesus was born. If you never hear about Jesus, I guarantee you, you will NOT be a Christian.

That attitude amazes me, and I am short on amazement these days.

I would really feel like a heel to take money from these poor, deluded souls. And it isn't that I would worry about my eternal soul...but obviously, neither do the scumbags who do not feel like a heel.

If a group of children could be raised free from the proselytizing of any faith, but with open access to any mythology or religious text they desire, along with a sound science and liberal arts education, how many would choose to believe in a religion and which ones?

It's impossible because no matter how benign and well-supplied, they would essentially be isolated from society at large, as nothing else would prevent peer-pressure indoctrination from more religiously-reared peers, and what court would condone that for innocents? But what we could learn from the results! Perhaps counterintuitively I for one would not suspect blanket atheism as the result. Majority perhaps, but the factors that made religions become as endemic as they are are inherent in all of us. Few people actually like the idea that there is no extrinsic purpose or goal in life, and many are comforted by the idea of eternal just rewards, or satiated by the idea of eternal just punishment of their tormentors. I just think absent the brainwashing, the internal conflicts and absurdities of all faiths would prevent wholesale freely chosen adoption of any of them. You may find a westernized neo-Buddhist or two among the group. Perhaps a modernized Hindu among the dreamier types. But the idea of anybody choosing one of the desert monotheisms as being both useful and true among all options as a totally unguided choice is I feel a bit fanciful.
