This is from a friend on Facebook. I'd really like to respond and say "why is god such a dick? Instead of just not being surprised at the storm he sent your way, why not just make the storm disappear and save everyone a lot of trouble?"

I would respond with what you say you would like to respond, but would probably leave off the first part. I don't take pleasure in slapping the shit out of believers, but I do let them know that I am not buying it.
I hope things turn around for you.

(9,356 posts)The Johnstown (PA) flood of 1889 was one of the worst disasters in American history to that time.
A Pittsburgh newspaper sent a new cub reporter to cover the story. His editor was very specific: "Thousands of people are dead, hurt or homeless. This is a huge story, so don't overdo it. Just give us the straight facts, no embellishment." Etc.
But the reporter couldn't help himself. When he sent his first story over the wire, the very first sentence started: "God looks down on Johnstown tonight..."
The editor immediately fired back his own telegram: "Forget flood. Interview God."
