(22,340 posts)I have no doubts about it. Plus the ire of many who said nothing this time.

(9,289 posts)Between all the bull going on in that thread, the trolls, and the willfully ignorant it just is not worth it.
Double standards and hypocrisy at every turn.

(49,533 posts)I've always told myself I can't let the assholes win, but I just can't convince myself it's worth it anymore.

(9,289 posts)On freaking hosts w/out being suspected of some nefarious plan to undermine the group in someway that they can't describe. Yet, they are the one's acting like some monolithic hive mind.
And for fucks sake, since when is saying none of the above not a valid choice, and why are THEY so fixed on it? We lost, so move on. Instead they want to bitch at us for having an opinion they don't like and try and shame us into agreeing with them?
I am convinced they are arguing just for the sake of opposing us at this point. There is no religious point of contention here. Just them trying to lord over us the fact they have 3 host to our 1.
Just because someone belongs to a group does not mean they are sympathetic to said group. Clarence Thomas is proof of that. Someone sympathetic would at least listen... Instead of trying to compare us to the tea party.

(49,533 posts)You'll note the argument always shifts to an attack on our motives, or our intelligence, or our "civility." It's simply come down to personal attacks, because they want our point of view eliminated. It wasn't enough to get a special safe haven created, where we couldn't criticize religion. Shit, most of us fully supported their efforts to do so! And as most of us predicted, it quickly became a dead zone. What kind of engaging discussion is it when the only allowed response is "Great point! I validate your feelings and beliefs! Religion is awesome!" ??
And yup, the tea party reference was totally out of line - and never retracted or apologized for. So much for "civility."

(4,549 posts)The best thing that ever came out of that group for me was a "What in the fuck am I doing?" moment when I realized that I was spending far too much time with people that I don't like on the internet when it's so easy to remove them from my life.
You've been around for a while now and have made some of the best posts I've ever seen on these boards concerning faith and the lack thereof, but you've also been around long enough to know that you won't get any discussion out of the denizens of that other group, only grief. Fuck them. Fuck them right in the ear. It's summer. Enjoy the outdoors. Spend time with real people that you actually like, people who will not snipe and back-bite. Try some new microbrews or hike a new trail. Life is short, far too short for wasting time on assholes, and we're grown up enough to realize that we don't have an eternity ahead of us in to recline on a cloud, strum a harp and bask in God's glory.

(4,549 posts)DU has been a very important message board to me, especially during the Iraq war years, but in the end it's just an internet message board and absolutely nothing to cultivate an ulcer over. Many of the posters I've known here over the years have had to step back, realize this, and take a little break. If you want to jump back into the "R" group fray after a little break, I guarantee you there will still be a fray to jump back into, complete with sanctimonious gasbags emboldened by internet anonymity.

(57,349 posts)We are at best barely tolerated and at worst told we do not belong here by our fellow countrymen. We get thrown under the bus faster by the "liberals" in our own party than any minority except the glbt folks.
Angry uppity women are unreasonable "one-issue voters" who have been repeatedly told abortion would never be criminalized and our right to choose will be defended vigorously by all. Ignore that boot on your throat ladies.
Angry uppity gay folks should be docile and wait for their civil rights to be handed to them like the rest of the minorities (because that worked so well in the past).
Angry uppity atheists are scary and polarizing and should refrain from criticizing the hypocrisy of the religionistas because no religious person or institution ever did us harm. The massive 85% majority in this country are Christ-like and benign.
So shut up and get under the wheels guys, our bodies provide much needed traction for the heroes who claim to have our best interests at heart and God on their side.
