Apparently Andrew Sachs (who played Manuel) said that John Cleese's blows really connected and really hurt when they were playing their parts.

I was once talking to a couple of people, one of whom was Spanish, and remarked to the other person: "Don't mind him -- he's from Barcelona." The Spanish guy didn't know why that was funny, so I explained about Fawlty Towers. To my surprise he knew the show very well and loved it, but apparently in the version shown on Spanish TV, Manuel is from Mexico.

I don't know if he loved the show as much after that.

Because he played the part so well. I didnt know that Sachs was really getting beat up ugh...so much for doing your own stunts

That's is definetly a great line..."never mind him, he's from Barcelona".

Don't mention the you-know-what.

A few years ago, I was doing some sight-seeing in Hungary. During lunch break on a tour, I was seated across from a very nice British couple.

They were from Torquay! And still Fawlty fans. Though they must have been tired of everyone spouting lines from the show, once they heard "Torquay."
