Well at least one anyway. Others are off demanding acknowledgement that ridiculing religion is wrong.

How few people on the liberal left even understand what freedom of speech is, let alone defend it.

Some years ago, a presumably enlightened liberal European relative if mine told me: "of course I believe in the freedom of speech, but that doesn't mean you have the right to insult people..." Of course, it does, dumbass, how can you not see that?

Christians and Jewish folks and other non-Muslims to congratulate each other for not being that horrible.

And even followers of Islam to say, that the shooters are "not true Scotsmen" of that faith.

Somehow, I doubt this event will make people question their religion any more than 9/11 did, and probably less.

satirizing and vocalizing disdain for Islam = "racism". Uh, no. Islam is a religion. Religion is not like race. Religion is an idea—a faith-based idea lacking any evidence—or a set of ideas to which one willingly adheres. Race can't be changed; religion can. All you have to do is change your mind. Think for yourself and you can be free from religion.

With every murderous atrocity like this - and they are easier to commit and more common than ever thanks to the easy availability of high-powered weapons - more people will begin to question their religious assumptions.

I am still waiting to see a broad questioning and re-thinking in the Muslim world, and I can assure you that acts like this are only going to embolden me to speak out more than ever. I expect the same from cartoonists and satirists the world over.

I only felt comfortable targeting Christianity. I hold many Muslim ideas abhorrent, but I recognize the crazy and would not have the courage to openly antagonize them. Its a pity how religion stifles ideas. Christianity used to be as crazy about their faith. Nowadays, it's just the pathetic souls like some here on DU who don't hesitate to alert when they feel offended. Better an alert than a bullet, but its the same thing.

Which is, well, inspired by the biblical story of Isaac. The kid's mom "hears god" tell her that her son is wicked and needs to be punished, so she locks him in his room, then takes away his toys, then god tells her to kill him, at which point he escapes into the basement and the game begins.

It has a lot of religious iconography, as well as many other themes running through it, but the religion is predominantly Catholic based, because that's what the creator grew up with and what he knows.

Someone asked him about Jewish stuff, and he said that he didn't know much about it. Someone asked him about Islamic stuff and he said he wouldn't include it because he didn't want to get murdered.

Vile, horrendous shit you'd never expect to find on a forum ostensibly peopled by progressive liberals. Of course, the Kumbaya Rapid Deployment Squad was quick to act and set these people straight... oh wait, that didn't happen.

And some people all over DU are jumping over themselves to vilify and attack them. Not only that, but to attack them in the most vacuous and spurious way possible.

Islam is not a race. Mocking Christianity on the illliberal, stupid and bigoted shit it has said but then demanding that other religions are off limits is hypocritical and bigoted in and of itself. Either you are for progressive and liberal values or you are not.

Critiquing a religion is not critiquing a people. And mocking and ridiculing the head religious figure of a religion, especially when its based on thing they supposedly did and supported, is not hate speech. Blasphemy, in and of itself, is not hate speech.

Sorry but if on the day someone dies you are more worried about attacking the victims than the people who murdered them or the ideology that drove the perpetrators to violence...there is something very very wrong with you.

I am more than willing to modify it, I just wanting to use something other than the boring default font.

Strange how it affects different peeps differently.

I know you were doing it for the benefit of some other fellow heathen here, but I have to say that at my age and eyesight, (corrected with glasses), it's easier to read when it's bigger.

I also find your posts very informative, thoughtful, and worthwhile to read, so I try always to read them.

This size will help me. Thanks.

For the apologists to come out and say _________________ (fill in your religion of choice)
"that's not what OUR doctrine says"
It's about time for them to start cleaning their own house. If you are not loudly condemning this and challenging your leadership whatever religion you are, then you doing a great disservice to yourselves. I know I'm preaching to the choir in A/A ...but I'm so fucking mad.

Where do these people get the nerve to decide who's head gets chopped off or killed. And what women should be thinking or doing?
Whether GLBT should be killed on sight because they want us to live in the damn 7th century to appease "their god" I think we have passed the "only a few bad apples are participating in these types of tactics"
