...Reverse Diaspora?
That is, the spontaneous coalescence, amalgamation and melding of a disperse group of individuals who extemporaneously find common ground, common ideals and common purpose in their inter-relationships and who subsequently form a new community, either metaphorically or literally?
(I am speaking of our apparent atheist proto-diaspora)
1) If so, should it be encouraged or otherwise assisted?
a. If yes, what would be the best means: philosophical or physical development or other?
b. If no, why not: loss of independence? Loss of the strength of our inherent diversity (i.e. increased exposure to broad brush criticisms)?
2) If not, would it be beneficial to create a diasporic meme within our apparent (albeit dispersed and diverse) proto-community?
a. If yes, shall we (should we?) establish and further develop the meme here?
b. If no, why not? Are we too diverse and thus have no basis for a coalescence other than the rejection of god claims, which in-of-itself is insufficient or otherwise inappropriate?
In a standard diaspora: a community leaves/loses its homeland, however it maintains an identity with the lost homeland for a period of time but individual memories and connections are lost through dispersion and, ultimately, individuals are assimilated by whatever host community they find themselves in.
In my hypothetical reverse diaspora: individuals spontaneously disassociate from their host communities, and begin a process of coalescence through shared exploration, and develop a cohesive narrative and communal(ity) identity.
One of the ideas that popped in my head during this mornings commute.

(6,604 posts)I suppose the answer would depend on whether people use it to expose themselves to differing viewpoints or to reinforce their own interests. Admittedly, they do both, but it would be interesting to know to what respective degrees.
Btw, I don't think it's possible to create a meme deliberately. You're really referring to talking points.
I could be wrong about that, but that's how I understand the term.

(4,031 posts)... but how about enthusiastically supported or even just acknowledged as an objective?
Again, not a deep thought on my part, but one I imagined could develop some interesting dialog.
