Atheists & Agnostics

In an article published on Wednesday, Gizmodos Zoltan Istvan pointed out that the world was nearing a point where autonomous, self-aware super intelligences created by humans would be part of our culture.
And several pastors and theologians told Istvan that there was no reason that a computer could not be saved by Jesus.

I can't decide if I want to laugh or cry.

(9,356 posts)The ones who've previously called for purging atheists from the Democratic Party. So you're right, it can be hard to tell some of their real stories from parody.
Now if a wealthy, white female Harvard professor of Divinity were walking down a hall, and a minimum-wage black atheist janitor asked her to move so he could mop the damn floor, RawStory would write it up as: "ATHEISM HAS HUGE SEXISM PROBLEM!1!"
Which is interesting, because RS seems to be getting a lot of right-wing ads. When I went there, the 2 phony polls on the page were:
"Do you think students and faculty should be allowed to pray in public schools?" and "URGENT Poll: Should Obama be impeached over the Benghazi tragedy?"
Both were Doubleclick traps. And since I regard Doubleclick the same way ISIS regards apostates, I ignored them.
Anyway, I tried to find the source of this nonsense. The basic story is all over the Internetz this morning. Can't be sure, but it seems to have originated with this one Bible-thumper in Florida:

The thing is, if there's one Bible being thumped, there will be more.
I've been having fun all day wondering if AI would reject the notion outright, or suffer a nervous breakdown of the HAL variety trying to assimilate the fantasy.
Also, would a Christian AI weigh the prayer factor while modeling weather patterns?
At first I was angry at this idea, but the more I think about it, the more intrigued I am. It would be an interesting exercise to feed all the religious ideologies into one machine and have it hash out the merits. Whoa Nellie. I'm almost certain the computer would unplug itself.
Which brings up the whole issue of AI assisted suicide / euthanasia. Would it be a mortal sin to power off your intelligent computer?

(42,641 posts)you would continue down the road at the same speed as the vehicle was going prior to rapturing up. You might want to drive in a helmet and wearing roller skates just in case.

(42,641 posts)can computer brains be implanted into Evangelical preachers without damaging the brains?
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)In fact, I think that they should be given all the information on all the different religions. Let the computer brains decide. It would be a really fun experiment.
